About This File

FS2004 Scenery--Bray Island CWFY And FOX-A, Nunavut, Canada. Bray Island is around 50 miles west and a bit north of Longstaff Bluff, and was built to serve FOX-A, one of the stations in the DEW line that heads west between N68 and N69 latitude. It was an Intermediate station that closed in 1963, and where a North Warning System automated station was established in 1993, so a similar history to West Baffin. The FOX-A Intermediate station buldings have been removed, with the exception of a shelter hut that can be used by maintenance crews in the Summer, there to refuel the fuel tanks and to carry out other maintenance work. The airfield is between the station and the west coast of the island, where the beach landing was established for off-loading construction material etc. The gravel runway is 4040 feet of 120 feet wide gravel, signed as "103T - 283T" as this is Northern Domestic Airspace where all runways are signed "true" and not "magnetic".
