About This File

Flight Of The Kiwi - An E-Book By Cliff Tait. One of six parts. Cliff Tait was a relatively young patriotic New Zealander (commonly known as a kiwi) who at the age of 37 learned to fly in an Australian manufactured aircraft called the Airtourer. Manufacture of this type of aircraft was later taken over by New Zealand and although very much a novice when it came to flying Cliff figured it would be a great promotion for New Zealand, which was suffering a downturn of its fortunes when England decided not to give New Zealand exports preferential treatment, if he flew this aircraft around the world.

Perhaps understandably his peers scoffed at the idea although one gentleman, Sir Keith Park thought the idea was OK but laughed at the idea that Cliff could do it and instead proposed an RNZAF pilot should be selected. In spite of tremendous opposition Cliff continued planning and with a raw instrument rating and only 200 hours flying experience Cliff set off leaving friends and family behind for a difficult journey that took him seventy nine days five and one half hours to complete thus putting paid to those who would discredit him.
