FS2004 Scenery--Attawapiskat (CYAT) in north Ontario, Canada. Attawapiskat is on the north bank of the river of the same name, on the west shore of James Bay. The top end of the Bay is around 140 miles north, Moosonee is around the same to the south, and the east shore 140 miles to the east. Peawanuck is 195 miles to the northwest. The town has a population of around 1600, although this varies with the seasons as hunting and the traditional way of life on the land is still important to the Cree-speaking inhabitants. As late as the 1950's the "town" was mostly an encampment of teepees. The airport is just to the north of the town with a gravel runway almost 3500 feet long, and includes the recently installed PAPI. There is no apron lighting, unless it has been installed in the last few months. There are flights by Air Creebec and other smaller airlines; the AI includes both Air Creebec and Wasaya.
