About This File
FS98 Lockheed U-2G, aircraft carrier qualified variant with CIA civil "N" registration, fitted with arrestor hook, wing spoilers and 50-degree-deflection flaps, as well as strengthened landing gear and rear-fuselage section. Five were built, one of which monitored the French nuclear tests on Mururoa Atoll in 1964. In 1955, Lockheed designed the basic U-2A as a single-engined, very high-altitude reconnaissance and scientific research aircraft, still operative and updated nowadays. The U-2A was powered by one 13,750 flb Pratt & Whitney J57 P37A turbojet engine, with a maximum speed of 459 kt and a ceiling of 85,000 feet. Modified Lear45 panel with default gauges included.
