About This File

FS98 Aerospatiale Mohawk 298. USA 1975 Frakes Aviation modification for Allegheny Airlines of the French Aerospatiale Nord 262, quite a successfull short-haul high-wing twin turboprop for 26/29 passengers and 2 crew, powered by two 1080 eshp P&W Canada PT6A-45A turboprop engines, with a top speed of 214 knots. The Nord 262 was built in 1962 by Nord Aviation (merged into Aerospatiale in 1970), and was the precursor of the modern ATR Series. Based on the 1959 Max Holste MH260 design, and improved with a round cross-section fuselage and pressurized cabin, it competed to replace the DC-3/C-47 Skytrain, ranking 2nd place. Of the total 111 Nord 262 units built, 9 were modified with the new engines, as well as 5-bladed propellers, new avionics and wing-tips, and an auxiliary power unit in the right gear fairing. Modified Lear45 panel with default instruments included. FD with help from Andre Lederer. Textures by Udo Entenmann. By Stephan Scholz.
