About This File

FS98 Avro Type D Biplane 1911. The first Avro biplane, resembling the Roe-IV triplane but with capacity for one passenger seated infront of the pilot. According to pilots' reports, it was a stable design, viceless and easy to fly. As before, lateral control was by wing-warping. Powered by one 35 hp Green C.4 engine, it flew at 42 knots. It participated in several races and cross-country demonstration flights. Seven units were built. By Stephan Scholz.
