About This File

FS98 Curtiss Twin JN Floatplane, 1916. Seaplane version with twin floats of the experimental twin-engined two-seater observation biplane Curtiss Twin JN, whose design was derived from the famous Curtiss JN-4 'Jenny' biplane. It was powered by two 90 hp Curtiss OXX-2 engines, with a top speed of 70 kt. The US Navy acquired 2 of the 8 Curtiss Twin-JNA's that were built, fitting them with floats and operating them as twin-float seaplanes for maritime observation duties. One of these, piloted by Victor Carlstrom, put up a new American distance record in August 1916. By Stephan Scholz.
