I think mcdonnell douglas had the right idea

Recommended Posts

Right idea, with a stretch version of the MD-80 series, 2 engine economy, but, the MD90 just couldn't compete with the newer lines of the Airbus and Boeing offerings!

She was a beautiful jetliner for her time and still is one of my favorites for hoping between major airports!

Just make sure the jack screw is well greased...

Either that or hire a Denzel Washington to fly it for you! (the movie Flight was largely based on the Air Alaska tragedy, and also blamed the jackscrew)

Aaron and Michael - Thanks for the "heads up!" I'll be sure to check the jack screw grease!

Thanks David and Jan!

Khalid - Yes, I saw the movie Flight, Denzel Washington had more problems than a jack screw! Another nice career down the drain! He, or the pilot that he played, was one hell of a pilot! That's about all I can say positive about the fellar!

Yes, I've flown on several and, with the rear engines, always a pleasure with such a quiet cabin environment.

From a visual point of view, I've always felt the wings look too far back on the DC9 (and even worse on the stretched versions).

Presumably the heavy rear mounted engines keep the centre of gravity well back on the fuselage?
