Recommendations for a new 2020 pc

Recommended Posts

Long time FSX user but now I need a new PC if I want to run 2020.

Would like a reasonably priced system that won't break the bank. Not up on the latest gaming pc's,

high end graphic cards, etc so please give specific recommendations if possible.

Many thanks

Jim

For 1080p gaming you are going to want a recent i5 or Ryzen 5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and either a RTX 2060 Super or RX 5600XT.

For 1440p gaming you are going to want a recent i7 or Ryzen 7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and either a RTX 2080 Super or RX 5700XT.

For 4K gaming you are going to want an i9 or Ryzen 9 CPU, 32GB of RAM and an RTX 2080Ti.

You are also going to want a NVMe drive, 1TB or more. Or at least a 1TB standard SSD as load times are a bit of a wait at the moment.

I'm running a 34" Asus 4K (3840 x 2160) Pro-Art monitor on the second highest graphics preset and I cannot complain at the performance I get in MSFS2020 running i7-8700K, NVMe 1 TB, 16GB, 1TB game SSD, and a RTX2070. I wouldn't run Modern Warfare at that resolution but MSFS2020 seems to run pretty sweet. I don't think I could justify the significant extra amount of cash for the better graphics card.

Thanks for your input. For 4K I, personally, would fork over the cash for at least a RTX 2080Super. I'm running at 1440p though on Ultra with a 3800X, 32GB of RAM and a Radeon VII. I hover around 40FPS with about 10GB of RAM being used.

I'm giving input based on my experience with MS2020. If I was playing at 4K I would not settle for anything less than a RTX 2080 Super. That is just my informed opinion.

I don't disagree at all but it all comes back to your budget at the end of the day and where your priorities are. An RTX2080 Super is 60% more than my RTX2070. If its within your budget by all means go for it. I probably game a couple of hours three or four times a week maximum. Maybe a bit more while MSFS202 is fresh and novel. But like all of us, I have other more expensive hobbies and commitments too.

Thank you for your reply. For some time now I've been out of the loop when it comes to newer CPU's, high end graphics cards, etc. I built my own systems years ago but not anymore!!

Since I'm not into high end gaming, I don't fully understand the terms 1080, 1440, and 4K gaming.

My question - Is it possible to get a system for about $800 that will run 2020 with acceptable frame rates and if so, what would be your recommendations be?

Thank you very much !!!
