    DC-2 Problem.

Exactly which DC-2 have you installed? Did you use any other addons or textures with it?

  3. On skyvector.com you can paste these routes into the flightplan and have them show up on the map. You can often guess what a waypoint is by it's length. Three letter: VORs and NDBs Four letter: Airport Five letters: Intersections Often the route will not list every single waypoint but shorten it to a continuous piece of an airway. These will be things with one or two letters and a number. At the beginning and end of a route there may be a STAR or SID. These will be named after the airport or navaid that they are linked to and will end with some kind of identifier (...1C, ...2Y) Also look for (pdf) charts for your departure and destination. These will contain the SIDs, STARs and approach procedures for the airport. For example: EGGD - LFMP EXMO1Z EXMOR N864 BHD N862 SKESO UN90 BASIK UN26 KORER UM616 USODA UM184 CNA UN863 SECHE UT24 GAI G36 ORBIL ORBIL2 After takeoff from EGGD fly the EXMO1Z SID, which will bring you to the EXMOR intersection. Then you follow the N864 airway until the VOR BHD. There you turn onto airway N862 until intersection SKESO. ... airway UN90 untill BASIK ... airway UN26 untill KORER ... airway UM616 untill USODA ... airway UM184 untill CNA ... airway UN863 untill SECHE ... airway UT24 untill GAI ... airway G36 untill ORBIL Then you fly the STAR ORBIL2 which will take you to an initial approach fix for one LFMP's approaches.
  4. Yes, not being able to use their favorite addon could be a reason for some people not to get the new sim and wait until the developer brings it out for FS2020. And a lack of enthousiasm from players coul keep developers from converting. (chicken egg) Implementing a compatibility mode could convince these people to make the switch. But this could come with it's own problems. For example, can Asobo legally use FSX code, given that Microsoft sold it to Lockheed Martin? And what about addons made for P3D that don't work in FSX? What if the compatibility mode introduces it's own bugs? Or not all addons work in it?
  5. Actually, it IS that simple. If you want the real deal, set all sliders to full and turn off all aids. Why worry about how others use the game?
  6. I guess so. But does Windows see your X45?
  7. So is this the same as with FS9/FSX on their release? A promising platform for addons but with mediocre default content?
  8. Why the disdain for gamers? One of the things to do with a simulator is to explore what an aircraft can do and where it's limits are. And like Elvensmith said, if 10k fpm is outrageous then the flightmodel should limit this, not the pilot.
  9. I can think of some areas where addon scenery can be desired: -More extra quality airports. -Landmarks that the AI didn't include or didn't do well. -Areas where Bing has lower quality or is outdated. -Historical and hypothetical scenery. I wonder if Microsoft will be updating the standard scenery. Will we see gradual improvements to things that are not covered as well? Will we see changes in the real world in the sim as well?
  10. That really depends on how they implemented the panel. In FS9/FSX the 3D cockpit could have many boxes fit for one particular gauge (making modding difficult) but also offer one big panel where gauges can be placed freely. (as on the 2D panel) This could be done for detailed 3D gauges as well. Where a 2D gauge would be built from stock bitmaps a 3D gauge could be built from stock 3D objects. And where a text file would detail how gauges are placed on a 2D panel it could also detail how gauges are placed in a 3D space. of course, we don't know what will be possible in the new sim. And FS9/FSX addons had both very beautiful and very ugly panels and gauges. It really depends on wether a designer is willing to put in time and effort or has access to good materials.
  11. The old MSFS was quite moddable and anyone who had notepad on his PC could make changes to a panel. I wonder if this is the case for FS2020 as well. If they made the panel and instruments separate entities from the 3D cockpit and aircraft model then this may be possible.
  12. In the long run FS2020 would likely be the best choice. But much is still unknown and it has has not proven itself publicly yet. We also don't know how long it will take developers like PMDG to come up with an addon that meets your standards. P3D's (or Xplane's, or FSX's) qualities are known. And al lot of addons are available now. But they are older simulators and may not improve more. So if you need something quick one of these would be your choice. But that could mean having to pay twice or skip FS2020 for a while.
  13. I haven't seen anything about this yet. I wonder what the sim itself will offer for this. Will there be the option to place different views on different monitors? Will there be a possibility to create custom panels (2D or 3D) like in FS9/FSX?
  14. Just turn north. Or enter 900000N0000000E in your GPS. From where do you want to fly? An efficient route would need to take into account the weather. Look up winds at your cruise level and plot a route that gives you the best winds at each phase of the flight.
  15. Well, some may get interested -or confirm their interest- in flying and some might not. But appearantly they still get into this, going by the stories of people paying an employer for the opportunity to do a job. Or is this coming to an end as prospective pilots are taking a more business like attitude? Then will there be a pilot shortage at all in the near future?
  16. But what would be the cause of a (future) pilot shortage? Not enough people interested in a flying career at all? A flightsimulator game can help spark people's interest and keep the fire burning. Or not enough enough people interested in a flying career as envisioned by the airlines? (pay for your own initial training, pay for your first job, all work and no pay) It seems that they are relying on pilots being so passionate about flying that they will even pay for a chance to do it. Again, a flight simulator game can get people interested but I'm not sure if it can get people that interested that they will accept such bad deals.
  17. That could work. The question is wether aerial imagery is good when viewed from the surface or close up. Often these will not have enough resolution so things will look very blocky/pixellated. Or a flat image of buildingwill look convincing when viewed from high up but not when you are close by on the ground. The big thing about the current scenery is not that is uses aerial imagery but that the AI is able to figure out from aerial imagery what is there. Once you know that there is grass or a house it would be possible to render that with an object appropriate for a particular simulation. And different simulators will have additional requirements. A train sim would need detailed trackside objects (like a station) and realistic signals. A ship simulator would need a realistic sea with realistic waves and currents. This means that additional datasets would need to be added.
  18. Then it is interesting that they are on a subdomain of airbus.com.
  19. So how heavy are you on arrival and where is the center of gravity? How much fuel and cargo are you carrying at that point? What is your speed when you turn off the autopilot on approach? When you are heavier you will stall earlier and you will need to fly faster. A quick google comes up with 623000 pounds max landing weight. Flying the whole approach on autopilot will hide from you how the plane is flying. This can lead to a surpise when you suddenly turn it off. Try hand flying it (like from the top od descent) and see how the plane behaves. If you find that you cannot keep the plane up at a given speed add some power to increase speed. That planner seems to make some assumptions about the weight of the aircraft, the cargo and it's fuel consumption. It will tell you how much fuel it will take to go from departure to arrival and how much reserve you carry. This figure may not match with your aircraft and loadout in the sim. Check for yourself how much fuel is actually consumed. It is up to you to divide that fuel over the available tanks. For example, if the planner recommends 13k lbs of fuel then you could put 5k in the left tank, 5k in the right tank and 3k in the center tank. Watch the center of gravity while you do this. What is your current experience in sim flying? How did you start and what have you done before the 747? How do you prepare for a flight?
  20. The spelling error is mine. The correct url is https://services.airbus.com/en/newsroom/stories/2019/12/airbus-brings-cockpit-to-you-with-new-virtual-reality-flight-trainer.html , as posted by Kapitan.
  21. The logitech throttle's levers has a longer range of movement that the CH yoke's levers. That would make it easier to precisely make a setting. The logitech throttle also has some extra switches that you can use for flaps, gear, etc. If at some point you get into twin engined aircraft and want twin throttle's with it then the logitech is quickly expanded with a second identical set. But the main thing is to have analog control over your engines. And the CH can do that so if money is an issue then you just get that.
  22. It is presented as a professional traing tool that would model things exactly as they are on the real thing. If this is true and and they have set up a system to keep the sim synchronous with what airbus brings out then I would not call it a piece of nothing. Services.aeirbus.com says so. But I think that the sim at a3xxflightdeck.com and and services.airbus.com are not the same.
  23. How do they work now? Do they show up as a gamecontroller in Windows? Can they be programmed to send keypresses? Then there is a good chance that they will work with FS2020. Do they work with a third party plugin like FSUIPC? Then they may work when that gets updated for FS2020. If they require proprietary software from GoFLight then there is a big chance that you will have to wait for them to come up with a new version.
  24. Yes, it sounds like you are just on the verge of a stall and that the autopilot is just managing it. Then you turn off the autopilot, give a bit of elevator or roll input and there you go. How are you configured on approach? What flap setting? How heavy are you? If you carry too much cargo and/or fuel on arrival you will need to fly faster and will stall earlier. Does your 777 come with an angle of attack indicator?
