  1. Our multi-month fly-in adventure continues this month, where we pick up where we stopped last month in Portland and continue to Kelowna. Kelowna is a city on Okanagan Lake in the Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of British Columbia, Canada. Kelowna is the province's third-largest metropolitan area (after Vancouver and Victoria). Although agriculture had become an important mark of Kelowna and the surrounding region, the town was entirely reliant on transportation over Okanagan Lake until 1925. In 1893 the Canadian Pacific Railway constructed the steamer SS Aberdeen on the lake, which served as the first significant transportation link between Kelowna and Penticton, greatly increasing the speed of Kelowna's growth. On September 11, 1925, CP was extended to Kelowna, ending the town's reliance on Okanagan Lake for transportation and trade. On August 6, 1969, a sonic boom from a nearby air show broke a quarter million dollars’ worth of glass, injuring six people. The destruction was caused by a member of the United States Blue Angels during a practice routine for the Kelowna Regatta festival when the pilot accidentally broke the sound barrier while flying too low. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, April 20th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00est (Sunday 05h00z) for our April 2024 fly-in where we depart from Portland (KPDX and fly to Kelowna (CYLW). One lucky Canadian Xpress pilot* will win: • Any Just Flight Product from: https://www.justflight.com *Please see Fly-In PDF for contedt details and eligibility requirements. This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. 2. This month, we are dusting off the float fleet that was in winter storage and head to the mountain valleys of British Columbia’s Rocky Mountains with a trip from Vancouver to Whistler. Half of this adventure is the trip. So do not bore your passengers with a direct point to point flight. This is most definitely one of those, getting there is half the fun type trips. The flight up Howe Sound is one of the most scenic flights a pilot can make. Take some time and enjoy it. Your mission is to depart either the the water drome at Vancouver (CAM9) or the commercial docks at Vancouver Harbor (CYHC) and fly up Howe Sound and along the Sea to Sky highway to Whistler where you will land on Green Lake (CAE5). Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The April 2024 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from April 1st until April 29th, 2024 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.

  4. Kicking off their 28th year, the Indy Racing League starts off their 2024 season in St. Petersburg, Florida with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. These flights can be cargo flights as there is a lot of equipment to haul or regular passenger service. You can also grab one of our corporate jets and take the team owners and drivers to the race in style. Remember from March 1st to October 1st, VatUSA is trialing CTAF. If no ATC online, your taxi and departure, landing and taxi in must be on the CTAF frequency. Other flight segments will be Unicom as normal. Starting in the city with the greatest speedway of all and home to most of the Indy Racing League teams, your mission is to depart the cold March weather of Indianapolis (KIND) and head for the warm sun of Florida and St. Petersburg (KPIE). 6. As Canadian Xpress looks forward to celebrating 15 years of service this September, some of our aircraft that have been around for a while need an update to their interior and a heavy maintenance check which is more than what our maintenance center can handle. This month, we are rotating our Airbus family of aircraft back to the Airbus factory in Mobile, Alabama for interior upgrades and heavy maintenance checks. As Canadian Xpress does not operate regular schedule flights to Mobile, these will be a ferry flights as our aircraft are scattered around the world. For this event, you will choose the departure airport, however all flights must be a minimum of 90 minutes. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The February 2024 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from February 2nd until February 28th, 2024 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  7. Cargo or air freight tends to be a more popular career choice for a lot of pilots, especially for those looking for more variation in routes and airports. Unlike a passenger airline pilot who will fly a lot of the same routes and airports week in and week out, cargo pilots can find themselves all over the world on random routes, based on where the freight needs to be moved. The downside means much time away from home as you are not always on a return route. Your mission is to depart from Los Angeles (KLAX) home of the largest shipping port in the United States at Long Beach and fly to Vancouver (CYVR) with any Canadian Xpress freeware or payware cargo aircraft that should allow everyone to get back home in time to return to your real-world jobs. 8. This month, we continue the World's Busiest Domestic Routes series of Challenges where we head to the United Kingdom. London is the capital and largest city of England and the United Kingdom, with a population of around 8.8 million. It stands on the River Thames in south-east England at the head of a 50-mile (80 km) estuary down to the North Sea and has been a major settlement for nearly two millennia. The City of London, its ancient core and financial center was founded by the Romans as Londinium and retains its medieval boundaries. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. The modern city is located between the rivers Almond and Esk on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, in the historic region of Lothian, bounded on its southern side by the Pentland Hills. 11. Happy Halloween and welcome to Salem Massachusetts, famous for the Salem Witch Trials of the late 1600s which was an effect of mass hysteria caused by political and literature rhetoric. Although the trials took place almost 100 years before Halloween was recognized, Salem has a month-long event celebrating Halloween and is known as the witch capital of the modern world. As Salem does not have its own airport, we will fly into Boston that is located 13 miles south of Salem. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, October 28th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00edt (Sunday 04h00z) for our October 2023 fly-in where we depart from Halifax (CYHZ) and fly to Boston (KBOS). 13. The Leeward Islands are the western part of the Society Islands in French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France in the South Pacific. They lie south of the Line Islands (part of Kiribati), east of the Cooks and north of the Austral Islands (also part of French Polynesia). Their area is 404 square kilometers, and their population is over 36,000. The westernmost Leeward Islands comprise a three-atoll group: Manuae (also known as Scilly Atoll); Motu One atoll (also known as Bellinghausen), the most northerly of the Leeward Islands; and Maupihaa atoll (also known as Mopelia) to the southeast. The Leeward Islands that lie more to the east are a mainly volcanic island cluster. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, September 30th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 30h00edt (Sunday 04h00z) for our September 2023 fly-in where we depart from Tahiti (NTAA) and fly to Bora Bora (NTTB). 14. This month, we continue the World's Busiest Domestic Routes series of Challenges, crossing the pond as we head to Europe and the country of Spain. Located in the Western Mediterranean Sea off the eastern coast of Spain, the Madrid to Palma route saw 1,140,759 passengers in 2021 (most current data), making it the busiest European domestic route. Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. The metropolitan area population of approximately 6.7 million. It is the second-largest city in the European Union. Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. The climate of Madrid features hot summers and cool winters. Palma, also known as Palma de Mallorca, is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands in Spain. It is situated on the south coast of Mallorca on the Bay of Palma. The Cabrera Archipelago, though widely separated from Palma proper, is administratively considered part of the municipality. As of 2022, Palma Airport serves over 28 million passengers per year. Your mission is to depart from Adolfo Suarez Madrid (LEMD) and fly to Palma De Mallorca (LEPA) with the Canadian Xpress® freeware or payware aircraft that can operate on this route in real life. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The September 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from September 1st until September 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  15. Phoenix is Arizona's state capital and the most populous city in that state with 1,608,139 residents as of 2020. It is the fifth-most populous city in the United States and the most populous state capital in the country. The Phoenix metropolitan area is known as the Valley of the Sun, which in turn is part of the Salt River Valley. Summertime sees temperatures in Phoenix rise so high, some aircraft types are unable to takeoff as the outside air temperature requires an engine performance derating larger than the aircraft capabilities. Telluride is a town the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado. The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. Telluride sits in a box canyon. Steep forested mountains and cliffs surround it. Telluride Airport is the highest commercial airport in the US at an elevation of 9,078 feet above sea level. Like Phoenix with its aircraft effecting weather. Summertime flying at Telluride is a challenge as well. With daytime temperatures that can reach nearly 30 degrees Celsius, operating in the thin air at high elevations can wreak havoc on aircraft performance. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, August 26th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 26h00edt (Sunday 04h00z) for our August 2023 fly-in where we depart from Phoenix Sky Harbor (KPHX) and fly to Telluride Regional (KTEX). 16. What are the busiest Domestic Air Routes around the world? Well, we are about to find out, as this month we continue the World's Busiest Domestic Routes series of Challenges. Up until 2020, the most popular route in the United States was New York to Los Angeles. However, in 2022 the most popular route was Las Vegas to Los Angeles where there was an average of 352 flights a week between these 2 airports with a total seat count of 325,000 paid seats. Las Vegas is the 25th most populous city in the United States and is an internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife. Los Angeles is the second-most populous city in the United States, after New York City, and is the commercial, financial, and cultural center of the Southern California region. Los Angeles has a Mediterranean climate, an ethnically and culturally diverse population, and a sprawling metropolitan area. Your mission is to depart from Las Vegas (KLAS) and fly to Los Angeles (KLAX) with the Canadian Xpress® freeware or payware Airbus A32* or Boeing 73* aircraft as these are the primary aircraft that operate this route. *Any variant. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The August 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from August 1st until August 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  17. What are the busiest Domestic Air Routes around the world? Well, we are about to find out, as this month we start the World’s Busiest Domestic Routes series of Challenges. Starting at home here in Canada with the route between Calgary & Vancouver being the busiest route with nearly 19,000 flights in 2019. Calgary is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is the largest city in Alberta and the largest metro area within the three Prairie Provinces region. As of 2021, the city had a population of 1,306,784 and a metropolitan population of 1,481,806, making it the third-largest city and fifth-largest metropolitan area in Canada. Vancouver is a major city in western Canada, located in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. As the most populous city in the province with a population of 662,248 people in the city. The Greater Vancouver area had a population of 2.6 million in 2021, making it the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada. Vancouver has the highest population density in Canada, with over 5,700 people per square kilometer, and fourth highest in North America after New York City, San Francisco, and Mexico City. Your mission is to fly from Calgary (CYYC) and fly to Vancouver (CYYR) with any Canadian Xpress freeware or payware airliner. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The July 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from July 1st until July 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  18. Calgary International is an international airport that serves the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately 17 kilometers northeast of downtown and covers an area of 20.82 square kilometers. With 14.5 million passengers in 2022 and 124,108 aircraft movements in 2021, Calgary International is the busiest airport in Alberta and the fourth busiest in Canada by passenger traffic. The region's petroleum and tourism industries (and its proximity to Banff National Park) have helped foster growth at the airport, which has nonstop flights to an array of destinations in North and Central America, Europe, and Asia. Calgary serves as the headquarters and primary hub for WestJet. Built in the late 1930s, the site has since grown to house four runways, two terminal buildings with five concourses for passengers, warehouses for cargo handling, and other infrastructure. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, June 24th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00edt (Sunday 04h00z) for our June 2023 fly-in where we depart from Vancouver (CYVR) and fly to Calgary (CYYC). 19. Ten years ago, we started the Dangerous Airports series of challenges where we flew 21 different routes into airports that require more than just your average pilot skill. Most people would not want to be a passenger, let alone a pilot in command for some of these airports, having to weave and twist tens of thousands of pounds of flying aluminum around mountains into valleys, with winds and weather bouncing the aircraft. Over the next few months, we are going to revisit the most popular of those airports from the past. Over the last 10 years our simulators have greatly improved on the level of realism they provide, allowing aircraft and scenery developers to take things to the next level. Along with that, some of these older events are just downright fun. This month, we revisit our November of 2015 challenge where we return to Barra Airport. Barra is a unique airport as for half the day the airport is under water. The airport is a STOLport situated in the wide shallow bay of Traigh Mhor at the northern tip of the island of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The airport is unique, believed to be the only one in the world where scheduled flights use a tidal beach as the runway. The airport's only destination is Glasgow. Your mission is to depart from Glasgow (EGPF) and fly to Barra (EGPR) with any Canadian Xpress freeware or payware STOL aircraft. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The June 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from June 1st until June 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  20. Madeira Airport, officially Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, is an international airport in the civil parish of Santa Cruz in the Portuguese archipelago and autonomous region of Madeira. The airport is considered one of the most peculiarly perilous airports in the world due to its location and its spectacular runway construction. It received the Outstanding Structure Award in 2004 by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. The History Channel Program Most Extreme Airports ranked it as the ninth most dangerous airport in the world and the third most dangerous in Europe. Pilots must undergo additional training to land at the airport due to its geographically unusualness, as it is perched on a foreland jutting out to sea. At the end of runway 05, there lie hills and cliffs which make a direct ILS approach and landing unavailable. Instead, aircraft must do a visual approach which involves flying around the airport, then circling around in a 180 degree turn before lining up on a very short final approach. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, May 27th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00edt (Sunday 04h00z) for our May 2023 fly-in where we depart from Pico (LPPI) and fly to Madeira (LPMA). Be sure to choose your aircraft carefully as Pico has only a 5,200 ft runway. More information regarding this event including operational details, charts, optional add-on scenery and Canadian Xpress Model Sets can be viewed by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca See you all on Saturday the 27th!
  21. This month, we revisit our March of 2016 challenge and return to Toncontin Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where aircraft must skirt around the mountains of the interior highlands to land in a valley 3,294 feet above sea level. On approach, airliners as big as Boeing 757s make a 45-degree bank to effectively reach the 7,000-foot runway with well above average rates of descent. Winds require pilots to compensate while hustling their aircraft in a zig-zag path over the terrain. Your mission is to depart from Owen Roberts (MWCR) and fly to Toncontin (MHTG) with the Canadian Xpress freeware or payware Airbus A32* or Boeing 73* aircraft. *Any variant. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The May 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from May 1st until May 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  22. Paro International Airport is the sole international airport of the four airports in Bhutan. It is 6 km from Paro in a deep valley on the bank of the river Paro Chhu. With surrounding peaks as high as 18,000 ft, it is considered one of the world's most challenging airports and as of 2019 only eight pilots in the world are certified to land at the airport. Flights to and from Paro are allowed under visual meteorological conditions only and are redtricted to daylight hours from sunrise to sunset. Paro airport was the only airport in Bhutan until 2011. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, April 22nd from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00edt (Sunday 04h00z) for our April 2023 fly-in where we depart from Kathmandu (VNKT) and fly to Paro (VQPR) to tedt our skills to land at one of the world's most dangerous airport approaches. 23. The Northern lights are the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun's atmosphere that produce energy in the form of light. Variations in color are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding, the altitude at which the aurora occurs, the density of the atmosphere and the level of energy involved. The Aurora Borealis manifests itself in a huge ring above the Earth's Geomagnetic North Pole which is referred to as the Auroral Oval. Due to the shape of the Auroral Oval, Dawson City Yukon is one of the best places in the world for easy viewing of the northern lights. As Dawson City is located right in the middle of the aurora oval and unlike some of the larger population centers in the area, has much less light pollution making Dawson City a dark sky views dream. Your mission is to depart from Anchorage (PANC) and fly charter flights to Dawson City (CYDA) to checkout this amazing meteorological sight with any Canadian Xpress freeware or payware aircraft. However, the runway at Dawson City Airport is only 5,000 feet long, so you will need to maximize both aircraft type and loading to make these flights economical. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The April 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from April 2nd until April 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.
  24. Normally, when people head south to escape of the Canadian winter, it only takes 1 or maybe 2 flights at most to get to their destination. However, when you are in control of the flight, it is no fun to sit for hours letting the plane do the work. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, March 25th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00est (Sunday 05h00z) for our March 2023 fly-in where we depart from where we left off last month in Providenciales Int (MBPV) and fly the final leg in our search to find warmer weather to Princess Juliana (TNCM). 25. Gustaf III Airport, also known as Saint Barthelemy Airport, Remy de Haenen Airport, sometimes as St. Jean Airport, is a public use airport located in the village of St. Jean on the Caribbean Island of Saint Barthelemy. Due to its very short runway, very close proximity to automotive traffic on a nearby road, all pilots must hold a special license in order to land at the airport. The History Channel Documentary Most Extreme Airports ranked it the third most dangerous airport in the world, behind Toncontin International Airport and Lukla Airport. The airport is served by small regional commercial aircraft and charters. Most visiting aircraft carry fewer than twenty passengers, such as the Twin Otter, a common sight throughout the northern West Indies and as a curiosity, the Canadian-built de Havilland Dash 7 is the largest aircraft ever allowed to operate at this airport. The short airstrip is at the base of a gentle slope ending directly on the beach. The arrival descent is extremely steep over the hilltop traffic circle; departing planes fly right over the heads of sunbathers (although small signs advise sunbathers not to lie directly at the end of the runway). Your mission is to depart from Princess Juliana (TNCM), make a scenic turn around the island of Saba before trying to earn your license by landing on Runway 10 at Gustaf III (TFFJ) with any of the following Canadian Xpress freeware or payware aircraft: • Any single engine piston or turbo prop aircraft. • DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter. • Helicopters are not allowed for this event.
