  1. It's best to try a VR HMD before you buy. Any make/model will do, just to give you an idea of what VR tech really looks like. Be aware that even with the best of hardware, VR in MSFS is incredibly demanding; its image quality and performance pales in comparison to a 2D display, i.e. computer monitor. That being said, as yet another HP Reverb G2 user, I gladly live with VR's deficiencies and required hardware's steep price of admission (check my computer specs in my sig).
  2. Did you try reseating your graphics card? I've had 'dead' gcards issues solved by doing that. Also, what is 'dead'? Does your PC shut itself down? Will it run POST? If so, the gcard fans should spin up as the computer first turns on. If they are not, it may not be just a problem with the fans themselves. Hate to say it, but a 970 is a rather old card. Hope you can afford to replace it if so needed.
  3. It seems that DLSS performance is a real YMMV kind of thing. I'm a VR flyer, and DLSS gives me about a 5 FPS boost (40 -> 45) and what I consider negligible distortion or artifacts. I find I get better cockpit clarity with it than the TAA and render scale settings I need to get 40 fps. Yeah, glass panels look a little wonky and for the tubeliner fliers I can see that as a deal breaker, but for my GA preferences it's a non-issue.
  4. If you got to stay with FSX, it is well worth it to get the Steam edition if you don't already have it. The Steam edition has been 'modernized' in the last few years to play well with 'modern' systems, but it's still the same old FSX. Started with FSX when it first released, and I moved to the Steam edition when I built my latest computer. Still got it on my new build, but it hasn't seen my CPU is nearly two years now. I'll uninstall it when I decide that I need the SSD it's on for something else.
  5. A flash drive, as in usb stick? Not a good idea since it'd have to be huge. And even if it was big enough, the manner in which MSFS installs is opaque and as brittle as it gets in terms of file system structuring that can be seriously fouled up. Beware also MSFS will install the bulk of its files deep in your user's appdata folder if it's not explicitly told otherwise, a big surprise for users who thought they completely installed it on a dedicated drive.
  6. Here's something that might fix the pilot centering problem. I've used the following to fine tune the default pilot position when using either TIR or VR. Regardless to what was mentioned above, there are user editable configuration files for all aircraft in MSFS. I've changed both stock and marketplace aircraft files using this technique. An aircraft's default pilot head position can be changed by editing the appropriate entry in its cameras.cfg file. An example of where to find a specific aircraft's cameras.cfg file: (your install's location)\Official\OneStore\carenado-aircraft-c337-skymaster\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado_C337_Skymaster\cameras.cfg To change the default pilot position, under the file's [CAMERADEFINITION] section that is titled 'Title="Pilot"' edit this entry: InitialXyz = -0.3, 0.62, 0.25 the first value (x) is side to side, the second (y) up and down, the last (z) is front to back. Units are approximately meters, larger values move right, up, closer to instrument panel. I comment out the original line by putting a ; before it before editing a copy of the original line. Here's an example: ;InitialXyz = -0.3, 0.62, 0.25 InitialXyz = -0.3, 0.62, 0.4 As usual, it's best to save a backup copy of the file before making any changes. Also, for VR there is a PilotVR section in this file that only effects the pilot position for VR. There is no need to change the PilotVR section unless you're using VR. What is nice is that changing this file is a one time only operation, though downloaded updates to the aircraft many revert the file to its original contents. Hope this solves the issues your having.
  7. Try lowering the MSFS graphics Render Scaling to at least 70 if you haven't already. That setting is the #1 VR performance killer if set too high. I use that setting with a rtx 3080 ti and a HP Reverb G2 revised and get very smooth frame rates, driver limited at 44 fps.
