Are you running FS9 as admin and using a compatibility mode?

That's one of the issues with Windows 10/11. I mentioned it somewhere. Windows is not checking anything, the exe just doesn't work and the reasons for it are more than one.

You will end up with likely the same problems but this time would've paid money to have them. Uninstall FS9 if it is installed. Install FS9 using the CDs. Do not install FS9 to where the installer wants to install it "Program Files". Create a new folder somewhere on your PC, even on desktop is fine and point the installer to install FS9 into new folder you created. If CD2 provides any problems, tell us what is going wrong. Once FS9 is installed, download the FS9.1 official patch and apply it. Then install the FS9.1 nocd. Launch the game. Ask here for clarification on anything.

I know in the past you were running internal graphics and this is why you used what you did or your FS9 would not function. The internal graphics were the reason it would not run and this is due to Windows 10 changes. With your current system, you shouldn't need to run a compatibility mode or as admin at all.

Robin, yes, as Tom again clarified, if he has an updated Windows, FS9 won't work which is exactly what I said. The most likely and highly probable reason for his issues is not having the patch and crack installed. I rarely bother with Windows advice because it's just too hard to get things through to people here. FS9 also does not run perfectly under Win 11 as you suggest. As I have said in the past and been the only one to discover, Win 10/11 made FS9 unusable on likely any system running internal graphics. That's a serious issue! Yes, you can run in a compatibility mode and as admin and it's a workaround but this is the last thing anyone should do with a program that interacts with so many other add-ons. People absolutely will run into problems at some point. Anyhow, I just make sure my PC is sorted. I've done this and have a perfect FS9 on Win 11 now running literally everything I have ever tried including masses of payware add-ons. It takes a lot of work to get to this point.

No it won't. You would need to have a very NOT updated Windows for it to work. Are you sure you haven't received a Windows update in the last week?

You need to install the 9.1 patch and nocd patch. FS9 won't run using disc 4 any longer. Do this and you should be good to go.

Your computer is fine. The error message could be triggered by one of a billion things. Nowhere near enough information to evaluate anything. Can you post your PC specs and operating system? Try a fresh FS9 install and note exactly at which point the error returns.

Ok, this points to what I was already thinking. Glad it's all sorted for you! You possibly needed a Visual C++ Runtime and the later program took care of this for you allowing SceneGenX to function normally again. If running old software, the Visual C++ Runtimes are often required or all sorts of issues can occur without warning. You may wish to download and save the all-in-one installer below to cover yourself in the future. Thanks Chris. I've just tried it and clicking new and loading the Example.sgx, I'm not getting any errors on Win 11. Let me know if there is something else specific I need to do to bring on the error? I also noticed you mention you can't upgrade to Win 11 due to your PC not being compatible. Unless it's quite old, many users simply have to enable TPM and then Win 11 can be installed. Is there a download link for the last version of SceneGenX anywhere?

If it works on my system won't be much I could probably do. Win 10/11 can cause so many issues and those issues can be very dependent on the users specific system. There are things that have broken under Win 10/11 for everyone, these can likely be fixed.

I'll check it out. No time frame but seems like it shouldn't be impossible to fix. There should be quite a few issues with add-ons but FS2004 today has few users and so many run relatively simple add-ons so you rarely read about complaints. Either that or they just accept problems as being "how it is."

These can be one of the Win 10/11 problems unless you had them prior to using these operating systems.

You can still find FS Global used DVD's at good prices. Would be my choice.

I've resolved every FS9 Win 10/11 issue I know of. I'm basically out of long term projects. Does anyone know of any external programs for FS9 that don't function properly under Win 10/11? Please don't not include weather programs or anything that is not functioning because the online aspect has been shut down. There is nothing that can be done for things like that.

An add-on can cause a high spike in memory. As I mentioned, there are a host of reasons why an OOM can occur and can occur even in quick fashion. Some things I've discovered have not even been mentioned on FS forums. Bottom line, unless you do actually have some serious issue with an add-on, the 4gb is enough to handle virtually anything you can do or use in FS9 and not have it crash. FSX, that's another story! haha

It's as Loki explained. In simple terms, think of it like a very easy and free computer upgrade for FS9. It gives your computer double the virtual memory when you run FS9. The combination of add-ons you are running were simply using more memory than you had available. When you run out of memory, FS9 crashes. The patch extends your memory from 2gb to 4gb so when using those add-ons there is still memory left over by the time you finish your FS9 session. Every FS9 user should have the patch installed. As I said earlier, it takes very little to run out of memory and there are a host of reasons the 2gb can easily be exceeded. The patch extends the memory enough that once installed, it becomes virtually impossible to ever run out of memory again.

Yes!!! Before wasting time doing all the things you are doing or people are suggesting here, run this patch! If you still have problems, then you will need to start looking at everything else. It takes next to nothing for FS9 to run out of memory not patched. You may not even have a problem at all. Run the patch and get FS9 up to 4gig. Then see if you actually even have a problem. It harms nothing, point it to your FS9.exe and it'll patch it.

You haven't answered if you have the 4gb patch. It's the first thing you should do.

There are a range of issues with setup.exe's on Win 10/11 from old games. Different problems for different users. You may be fine but the next user may not. What is happening to the OP is exactly what happens, the exe does not execute.

Make sure you have updated FS9 to 4gb of virtual memory.

This is almost certainly a path problem. You need to make sure the correct path to FS9 is set in the registry for the FS9.exe. The setup issue off the USB stick is one of the great new problems Win 10 introduces. In future keep using the discs.

Some people almost feel pressure they need to move on and when they do, try and convince themselves they are happy. In just about everything, many people are realising moving forward is not what they really want and they simply don't do it. I've been this way for several years now and can't express how ridiculously happy I've been!
