Ebay is probably your best bet, certainly for the Saitek. The Boeing is more of a problem. I'd suggest an aircraft breakers but "CHEAP" could be another story. Have a read up on Hall Effect sensors, they're more reliable and more accurate than pots.

Hi All, I read recently (Don't ask me where...) that a single monitor doesn't show as much as a multi-monitor setup. In other words If I use a single large monitor the standard screen picture will just stretch to fill the single screen whereas a multi setup will extend the edges of the picture giving you a wider vista. Is this correct? TIA Paul.

Sorry if I'm too late to help but great if you've fixed it. I'm no expert but a lot of the hassle with installing stuff into Win10 seems to be the oversensitive security settings. Try switching off your virus protection and running the driver install as administrator, if possible. Otherwise I thought XP11 was already set up for Saitek/Logitech gear. (I'm an XP10 user, I've only seen the XP11 demo briefly.) Paul.

Has anybody ever tried to swap out the rotary encoders on the Saitek radio panel and multi panel for a better quality item, or at least tried to swap the knobs for something a bit nicer looking?

Well, it's a partial success. I haven't upgraded to x64 yet but I've installed the SSD with FS9 and FSX+Acceleration on it and everything is running better than before, including FSIUPC and SPAD, neither of which have been successful in the past. Frame rate is good and loading speed is very quick so I'm a very happy bunny for now. I'll still upgrade to X64 in the future as I still want to increase my RAM but that can wait.

I'm sorry, I think you're confusing me with someone who knows what they're doing! I know nothing of DPI compatibility and override, I'm just a mere mortal doing his best.

Right, I've sprung for a small (128GB) SSD just to try it out. I'll eventually go full SSD but in the meantime I'll be keeping the OS on the hard drive and loading FSX and all its accessories onto the SSD. It'll be a few days coming but I'll report back when I've completed everything.

Definitely looks like SSD's the way to go. I've just been looking at the prices on the bay and they're much cheaper than I thought.

I feel your pain Nikolai, I've got a huge stash that I'll probably never get around to building but I've had them so long I can't bear to part with them. Good luck with your memory upgrade. I assume you're using a 64-bit OS.

How very dare you! Seriously, I'm fine with that. I'm going back to Windows XP because it's tried and trusted and my FSX add-ons are designed for XP, besides I've had no end of hassle trying to get FSX to run with Windows 10 so I'm chucking the towel in as far as that's concerned. A bottom end performance will suit me fine! (Quiet at the back!!) A good point, well presented. Meanwhile I've got two 500GB drives ready and waiting so I'll be using one to prove my point. I've had enough of trying to load FSX into Windows 10 so I'm going to come at it from a different angle by upgrading my XP pc. I've had to upgrade the power supply since it died so rather than bin it, I decided to make some canny purchases on our favourite auction site and came up with a new (to me) motherboard with an Intel Core Duo 3.16Ghz CPU and 4GB RAM, 8GB extra Ram and a 500GB hard drive. Once this is in I'll be installing XP 64bit so I can increase the RAM to 8GB. I don't intend connecting this PC to the internet, instead I'll be using the Windows 10 machine for downloads etc.; in the meantime I'm getting used to X-Plane 10 which, at the moment, seems to be behaving very well with all of my Saitek gear although the controls are a bit sensitive, so I might pull the trigger on X-Plane 11 at a later time. So once I've dragged myself kicking and screaming into 2010 I hope to be flying my FSX/XP Canberra, Lancaster, Tiger Moth, Mosquito and Vulcan. Happy days.:)

Well that was short-lived! It seems I can't dual-boot an older OS onto a newer one, it has to be the other way around. I downloaded VirtualBox but I didn't find it intuitive and the 300+ page manual seems a bit OTT for my purposes. Looks like I'll just have to fix my old XP machine. Thanks Microshaft!:mad:

Thanks PAULCRAIG but I've been there, done it and bought the t-shirt. To be honest the 1603 method is a little above my confidence level. To be honest I'll probably get hold of a "new" old machine to run Windows XP and find another use for the Windows 10 machine. Or I might explore dual booting.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think the installer is configured correctly as FSX is almost fully installed, that is to say it's worked through both disks correctly, before it gives a 1722 error message. Once I've clicked OK and it's rolled back I get a "1603 Fatal error during installation" and then the finish screen pops up. The annoying thing is that it goes through the whole process before it tells me it won't play ball.

I've run kb928080 and got the "success" message but still no joy. I don't think it needs to reset the installation counter because I've reset Windows 10 so I'm guessing the count should be zero. Would there be some legacy file from before the reset that's still storing the count?

I must confess that around 99% of what you wrote went straight over my head, but I can say that my FSX problem is that it won't install. I've tried boxed versions of Standard and Deluxe (SP1 & SP2?) and the files all upload but the installation doesn't complete as a file's not present. I'll come back to you with that one. I think you're right when you say that my current aircraft will need to be replaced, the sad thing being that you can only get downloads these days which I'm not fussed on.

Hi all, Sorry if this question's 10 years out of date, that's just the way I roll! I've been having problems with flight sim for years. First not having a high enough spec computer, through various stages of hardware and software incompatibility to where I am today. Over the 25 years or so that I've had a flight sim in my life I've been entirely unsuccessful at acheiving my one simple aim of having a stable system where all of the peripherals interact correctly and all the software performs as it should, hence the delay as I've spent long periods ignoring it. I upgraded my computer to a higher spec, running Windows 10, about 2 years ago and after lots of problems went back to my old XP machine which wasn't issue free but was relatively stable. Unfortunately last week my XP machine died so I've gone back to Windows 10. After several attempts I've managed to get FS9 up and running (but not FSX) but now I find that all of my aircraft, being FS9/XP compatible, won't load under Windows 10. I can't afford to replace all of them so my question is is there a workaround to get XP based software loaded in W10? Failing that, can I move my XP hard drive into my new machine and boot into XP using the i3 processor? The aircraft I want to load are mainly by JustFlight. Please can anyone help? TIA Paul

Thanks for the replies to my original post. Ref FS9, I pulled the trigger on a vgc copy of FSX Deluxe Which installed without any problems in XP and has been working great so far. I've left all of the settings as installed and it matches my skill level quite well so I'll leave it for a bit. I'm still unsure as to whether I'll upgrade the OS to Windows 10 as the most cost-effective way for me would be to buy a refurbished computer off Ebay. On the other hand, FSX doesn't use any more than 4Gb of ram, which I already have, so, if my CPU and graphics card are up to it, I can probably afford to wait a while for my skill level to catch up. Any thoughts?

Hi. After a long break from simming I've decided to test the water again to see if I can be more successful at it than I was previously. To be honest, I couldn't be less successful! My past simming history is one of defeat and dismal failure. Firstly, with FS5 my computer wasn't up to the job, then I changed the computer and upgraded to FS98 my hardware let me down. All in all I've never successfully completed a flight... So here we are again. I've dusted off the old PC after using a Mac for several years and I'm ready to start again. I intend using my old computer with new Saitek hardware in an attempt to control the cost. The specs are AMD Athlon 7550 Dual Core 2.5 GHz and 4Gb RAM (Although only 3.25Gb appears on the system info.) Nvidia GE Force 9600 GSO 512 graphics card. I'll also be reacquainting myself with FS98 before I decide whether to go with another package. In the meantime I have a few questions:- Will FS98 support the Saitek gear through USB? Will FS98 support multiple monitors in readiness for a software upgrade? The minimum requirement for FSX is a 2GHz or higher single core processor. Mine is a 2.5GHz dual core. Will this be suitable or does FSX need the full 2GHz through a single core? Would this mean a 4GHz dual core minimum spec processor? Lastly, is FS98 backwards compatible for scenery as I have a scenery pack of my local area from FS5? Ok, I know it won't look fantastic but I really don't want to spend the money until I know everything works!Thanks very much in advance to anyone who's still reading and can offer some help.
