When Covid hit I dug out my old FS9 which I rarely used and got it hooked up to an old Dell Vista machine with a cheap graphics card. I had an older LG 55 inch TV sitting around so I used a HDMI cable from the Dell to the LG and used this as my monitor. It was ok but not clear like Directv would be on it. SO my question is can you use a TV as a monitor or does a monitor have special settings to use with a computer that it shows a good picture. Does anyone use a TV as a monitor? I'm thinking due to the old software FS9 and the old Dell Vista and the amount of Memory and simple graphics card is the issue for not a really great picture. If I get FS2020 I want to take advantage of a great display. I'm not really a fan of a 24 inch monitor or even hooking up 3 to make a U for viewing so looking for anyone who uses a TV or can you and get a great picture, I don't know would it show in 4K? Ok I did some sim stuff last winter and now picking it up again while its cold in the Northeast but I don't understand the cockpit/virtual cockpit selections. Yes I know what it is but when I fly with just cockpit I can see most of the cockpit and its in focus for the most part I can read the gauges and I can still see outside good, So I select the VC and ok I might be able to see some instruments maybe clearer and yes its neat to toggle the button and zoom around the cockpit but as far as flying this way, You only can see some instruments ,you are too far away to see them, and yo cannot see outside so what good is it unless your flying on instruments. Ok I'm a newbie so maybe I'm doing something wrong have it set up wrong not getting it set right? I am using a Vista Dell that is not the best but on the normal cockpit I'm doing fine.So what is the advantage and what am I missing? This is for 2004 and FSX which I have on another older dell and the same thing you cannot see outside or move closer to the panel or adjust it so I'm lost \. there's got to be something I'm missing. Sorry I do not know why it inverted my pictures they are right side up in the attachment window?

I was trying to clean up my old vista computer and I cleared all the docs out of Documents. Did not realize my flight plans were in this folder. I tried to put the flight plans back in the Document folder but it's not working. I cannot load or save a flight plan. I start FS9 and then try and load/save a flight plan and it gives me these error messages. I have the old flight plans in the Flight Simulator Files and they were grayed out but now they are not but still will not load or save a new one? I also cannot save a flt plan to then make it be the default it says name this trip but I am not doing it right? Maybe a file extentsion. I will try post the screenshots of the error. I did read all I could find on not saving flight plans and tried all options in finding the path which I can but it gives me the same error. Thanks if someone can show me the new light. I know this post is not current with the last post's but new at this 2004 and trying to upgrade scenery. First is the ground and I see you have a lot of Ultimate Terrain. I tried to download this last night, the usa package and nothing but problems I think they took my payment and I got nothing for it no explanation about how I was getting the terrain key to install it after the download and one of those catch 22 you must make an account to talk to tech support but you cant talk to support cause you dont have an account yet you got an email from them that your email is correct and you have a sign in. I can't see everyone going through this so I'm doing something wrong. If you are still active if you could give me your technique to getting it and where? I tried FSGENESIS also first and no luck I downloded 2 for Ohio area and it made no difference I followed the instructions but again there is a learning curve and when I got back into FS9 it said adding extra terrain and took longer so I thought it worked. I did have one question the site said the numbers coordinate with the lat/long thats where they get the numbers for the map sections of USA....but in reviewing the lat/long for the area I was adding the numbers were not close, so what gives I would really like to get this upgraded and I guess I will have to study these post more but I m o for 2 and I am familiar with computers so thats why I'm asking how you downloaded it and where. I saw some post about Flight 1 and Ultimate Terrain but they were old posts. Is Ultimate Terrain still available and is Flight 1 a legit company? Its home page says 2020 but I have gotten nothing but headaches trying to make an account sign into an account purchase the Ultimate Terrain I think it's trying to get your money. I wanted to update the scenery mesh, terrain and this program was highly touted. But I must be missing something because it runs you around in circles and takes your money and no product? I'm a newbe to 2004 so I'm sure it has something to do with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated or if someone can suggest a mesh and terrain upgrade I would greatly appreciate it. I did download the FSGenesis and to my knowledge installed it correctly but it showed no difference in the scenery? I had to question as it says it lists the Latitude in the map diagram that coordinates to the SW corner of the map the mesh covers but the numbers did not add up to me for what the map showed, and maybe thats why no difference I just did a state and showed no difference? Thanks for the answers I will read over them and review it and try again. Yes I am talking about the aircraft.CFG I cannot add textures or change items in the aircraft.cfg I don't understand if I open it up and add something or change something then when I save it it should have the same path that it opened from and thats the path I want it to go back to. It gives me a box with check the path and file and they are exactly what it was when it opened up. So then it must be what your talking about the UAC. I will try the copy to desktop and notepad which I used and then back to the aircraft. Would this also pertain to FS9 I get the same message using it? Thanks again for your answers, I will try again. New in town but learning and my question is i'm having trouble closing and saving an aircraft.cfg file after say i add a texture. I will click save and it will come back with an incorrect file or location, and I am looking at the location and I did not edit it and it looks correct so not sure what is happening. I cannot just click save and exit. The only way I can close Aircraft.cfg is to cancel and then exit so the change is not saved. If anyone has a answer to me I would appreciate it. I will try again and then I guess get a screen of the response if it keeps doijng it and see what I am missing but ifnotepad opened the file it has teh exact location and I'm just editing it and trying to save it. I looked at the FAQ but they seem to reference adding changing info and then save and exit as this should work. Thanks Sterk03

Hi I'm new to FSX and any flight sim programs. Advertised on the site tonight was a Photo Real Packs for global terrain upgrades. It mentioned that update your mesh first? also then it stated that the usa already has std as the default setting, so does that mean that I have FSX standard I have the USA mesh standard already so no need to download any mesh for the USA? So if there is an area that the Photo Real Packs have that I'm interested I don't need to worry about the mesh? My nest question is won't it depend on your computer and graphics card how it will show these scenery packs and is there aome minimum needed to run these upgrade packs? I am looking for suggestions on what I need or best way to upgrade the visuals and after reading the mesh guide at least I understand why its so clear around the aircraft but if I'm looking in the distance for an Airport I might not see it until much closer. Any help in selections or what has worked best is greatly appreciate. Thanks Sterk

Thanks for your help, sorry for the delay but life is getting in the way. I am getting better at it, its just some of the files folders have other items in the folder and not all go into the airplane folder.

I am new to FS 2004 and flight sims in general and I cannot get some aircraft to upload properly. I have read the download instructions and feel I am following them but until the light bulb goes on and I can recall what I did to get a successful download and have it appear in the list I need some help. One of my concerns is most read me files say to unzip the entire download into the airplane folder, others say to separate and put texture or gauges in there own folder. Some files have listed info but it's not clear what folder these are entered into if this is the proper way.
