  1. In my FSX.cfg, the PageID is already set to "1" But I still get the annoying screen every time. I have FSX-STEAM if that makes a difference?
  2. Wow! The scenery on top of Catalina Island is just a little different than when I first landed there with MS FS Version 2 in 1984:)
  3. Thank God the're only virtual drunk pilots! But really good pics and story line...
  4. I think you need to get a better virus app than Defender: There are several good virus protection apps (some with perhaps a trial period) you can download for free, and several more for purchase.
  5. There are numerous flights in FSX where there could be many course changes if you select waypoint navigation. This is esp. true in mountainous areas of countries, and perhaps more so upon take-off or decent. I just "flew" from Anchorage (ANC) to Seattle (SEA)and there were at least 6 course deviations (from a straight-line flight option).
  6. The same reason, say, a whole bunch of people still prefer talking on land lines. I for one have not used FS9 since the end of 2015 when bought a gaming rig and switched to FSX. But FS9 was about the best sim out there at the time, but then something cooler came along...
  7. My opinion ONLY, but like FSLabs, licensing paranoia abounds at PMDG ..
  8. It was around the Summer of 1978 and I was lying on the sand of Manhattan Beach in NYC. Heard the sound of a jet engine above me - looked up and beheld the delta wings of a Concorde making the turn from JFK heading to Europe - it could not have been more than 2000 feet above me?
  9. Given the the many eons it would take those monkeys to duplicate the complete works of Bill Shakespeare, they probably would have evolved into humanoids along the way...
  10. Glad to see that the Asobo Team finally restored Meigs Field...
  11. I have more than 120Gs of aircraft in my FSX files, plus loads of scenery, so I don't really care if new freeware is becoming rather scarce. D/L was becoming almost my obsession...
  12. Welcome aboard! Unfortunately, don't known if your current rig will do justice to any current flight sim? Perhaps you should consider a lower-end gaming PC to start with that includes at least some minimum specs (as listed on the sim you choose).
  13. 20 minutes at 63 MPH?: All for 83 grand? If anyone lives that close to work, get a really hot-looking car for those $$$...
  14. My first airplane ride was in a Eastern 727 to WPB, Florida, the week of the first moon landing, 1969. Actually exited the 727 from the back stairs onto the tarmac, and into the sweltering summer heat...
  15. Doesn't look like that dog has a tail, number.
  16. Yes, great screen shots! Believe it or not but they had the Catalina Island Airport in MSFS Version Two (around 1984 on a floppy disc). It was difficult to land there then, and it's still very tricky today...
  17. Two things that guy had going for him to land that aircraft with no damage to either him or the plane: A qualified and experienced flight instructor, and good weather. Plus. a major airport with a long runway. I think perhaps ten other random people may not have been able to do it as well in similar circumstances... Landing a real plane, even for a long-time flight simmer would probably prove to be the challenge of a lifetime (if you survive). The motion and flight dynamics of a plane is very different than sitting in your den landing a heavy. There is also the vertigo factor that many novice pilots suffer as the plane begins to descend.
  18. I used to live in the West Palm Beach area, and he was darn lucky to be near a major airport with a long runway - even so, as we armchair pilots know, many things can go oh so wrong landing any aircraft. It was truly a downright remarkable feat...
  19. I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that no one who has those rigs also has a wife :)
  20. I was an City of New York employee in 1986, on the One Hundred Year celebration of Lady Liberty. I was given special tickets to view the Statue's birthday at night from a nearby downtown NYC pier. Twas quite a spectacle...
  21. I believe to formally obtain copyright protection on a particular (and perhaps unique) item , one must apply for it (in the U.S.) thru the United Sates Copyright Office...
  22. Sir: Don't know why you are done with flight simming? I would certainly not blame you if you bought MSFS2020 and are frustrated with the endless wonky updates:) As we bid you farewell, thought you might be interested in this little tidbit - Back in June, 1983 I lived in NYC. Happened to take a day off from work, and was in a small park in downtown Manhattan near my apartment. Heard a loud jet noise just above me. Lo and behold, it was a low-flying 747 with the space shuttle riding piggy-back!
  23. Don't know if you have problems with other aircraft and/or scenery, but it your CPU, graphics card, and GB's of RAM may just be getting by running FSX?
