Absolutely a great pic Bill! Glad someone took the time to look outside and gaze at that wonderful sky.

Always Aviate, then Navigate, then Communicate. And never be low on Fuel, Altitude, Airspeed, or Ideas.

And also over a lot of other places as well.  For example many areas in the US had large "dark blocks" where navigation radio aides such as TACAN didn't cover.  We often triangulated "Clear Channel" AM radio stations at night out of cities like Chicago, Louisville, LA, and New Orleans.  Also many larger aircraft even had portholes in their cabin roofs so navigators could take sightings while in flight.

One night we received WABC AM NY at 5000 ft, over Elizabeth Town NC on the NDB. Followed it all the way to NJ, and had some good tunes to listen to at the same time.

5,000' over terrain, what were you flying?

Beech Sundowner, if my memory serves me correctly. And, VFR, so must have been 5500 (east is least and west is best).

J remember as a Reds fan I often listened to WLW when east of the Mississippi as well.  Of course that was for navigational purposes only.
